Mission Point

One of my favorite hikes, can reach the peak via several routes

Such a great hike. It’s tough though cause it’s consistently steep throughout. There’s a bench and a tree with a lot of shade near the top.

Great hike, but be ready - it's all uphill! Seriously - leaving from O'melveny park you get lulled into a false sense of calm as you walk through the flat park to the start of the trail, but as soon as you turn the first corner, it's uphill the entire way to "Top of O'melveny" and Mission Point. And I don't just mean a gentle incline... The grade is pretty significant and unrelenting. probably 1.5 miles completely uphill. I usually push through without breaks on hikes, but I had to stop and rest a more than a few times just to catch my breath. If you're not in good shape, either expect it to take 3-4 hours, or expect not to finish.

If you make it to the end, the view is totally worth it! You can see the entire valley, from West Hills to Burbank. Truly amazing (when not too smoggy).

Start early during summer months. It'll get hot, and this hike will take a couple hours (at least).

Aside from the generally steep grade, it was a clear, wide trail. I never feared slipping off the side and never had to hold on with my hands to climb. It's just a very strenuous walk up a steep hill.

Such a wonderful place to hike, get a great workout... amazingly beautiful scenery at the same time!!!!
